March 12th, 2025 The Academy – FAQsThere are no current intakes for the Academy program. Our next intake will be September 2028, TBC. Who is this program suited for? The Academy is open to anyone identifying as living with visible or invisible D/disability and is working towards acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to sustain an entrepreneurial performance practice at a professional level. This program is also highly recommended to anyone who has curiosity around performance creation. You will learn how to produce, put together a creative team and gain insight into working collaboratively. There is a range of professional pathways you may follow after completing this program. Acting for film/TV, creating your own work, working with other theatre companies, and more. Is there an expectation around experience, knowledge, or other qualities? Our primary expectation is curiosity and openness to exploring. No pre-training or experience is necessary. Does this program recognize lived realities of chronic pain, anxiety, immunocompromisation, or other factors that may impact participation, stamina, or concentration? Yes. We understand that bodies and minds are often unpredictable. There is no ideal or correct way to engage with the creative process. Our commitment is to meet everyone in the body and mind they inhabit on a given day. That said, we also know that such a commitment requires patience and collaborative contribution. It may take time to discover the best strategies for each student’s success – particularly in light of possible access clash.** Individuals are welcome to wear masks, and we can accommodate distancing in-studio. In the event of illness, students can attend virtually. ** Access clash is when two or more people’s access needs clash with each other, creating potential friction. For example, one person may need silence to work effectively whereas another may need the radio on. Is this a safe space for me in all the ways I identify and express myself? Yes. We welcome students of any identity or identities.
