2026/2027 Season Announcement

First, an enormous thank you for helping us make last season such a huge success! From Faye’s Room to Arc One and the commissioning of June Fukamura’s new play, studip, we really couldn’t have asked for a better first season as Glitch Theatre – or a better community of folks to share that first season with. We learned an awful lot about who we are as a company and what we have to offer our (rapidly growing!) audiences.

This season, we’re coming to you with FOUR whole productions – two live and in-person, and two (whole series!) designed specifically for your ears. We’ve got queer zombies and PTSD in Vascular Necrosis! We’ve got an incredible 20 new and emerging D/disability-identified artists across the Arc One Podcast and Gain Staging! And then we’ve got the culmination of two years of Academy training in our second cohort’s Capstone Project.

From Touchstone Theatre’s Flying Start program comes an exploration of mental illness and belonging that offers a subversive, darkly-comedic take on the Zombie post-apocalyptic genre; Vascular Necrosis.

Five years ago, Penelope killed herself. Shortly after, she rose from the grave as a flesh-eating monster. Now, with the help of “de-necrotizers” — medication meant to subdue her zombie instincts, she gets to rejoin society in the land of the living. But how do you exist in a world you never wanted to be a part of? 

Vascular Necrosis follows Penelope as she’s torn between the world she left behind and the after-life she wants to live.

Directed by Daniela Atiencia, this play features Gabrielle Nebrida Pepin, Evelyn Chew, Marguerite Hanna, Brynna Drummond, and Terrence Zhou.

Arc One: The Podcast

Series launches August 27

New episodes releasing weekly on Thursdays wherever you listen to podcasts

The Arc One project brought together 10 new and emerging D/disability-identified artists to write and perform new short works — ranging from short stories to monologues to dramatic scenes.

The artists performed these works for a live audience at the Roundhouse Performance Centre in May of 2026, accompanied by live mixed sound and music by Mishelle Cuttler. The evening was recorded live by sound designer Malcolm Dow, and now here it is for you to experience over the next ten weeks – one amazing artist at a time.

Each piece runs about five minutes long.  And each one stands entirely on its own.

These aren’t excerpts. They aren’t previews of something bigger. Every episode of this podcast is its own complete listening experience.

Gain Staging

Coming to a podcast platform near you in early 2027

From the Glitch Playwriting Circle cohorts of 2026 come ten excerpts of new works by artists who identify with D/disability… in podcast form!

Each week, Gain Staging will amplify one of our playwrights, plugging you directly into their process and inspirations. You’ll also hear an excerpt of their work, scored with original music and sound from award-winning composer and sound designer Malcolm Dow. Blending immersive stories with dynamic conversations, Gain Staging is where this year’s Playwriting Circle artists will find their frequency and have their stories heard.

Applications for the Playwriting Circle are open now until August 28th, 2026.

The Glitch Academy Capstone Project

June 2027

This fall, the Academy cohort begins their second and final year of the program. Building on the skills and artistic visions they’ve cultivated throughout their time at the Academy, the students will showcase their work in a public presentation next summer with support from Academy faculty Paula Viitanen Aldazosa, Sandra Ferens, Alex Lazaridis Ferguson, and Adam Grant Warren, as well as associate faculty member Mily Mumford (courtesy of BCAC’s Early Career Development program), and Academy Intern (and alum) Jennifer Burgmann.

The only training program of its kind in Canada, the Academy is a part-time, fully-scholarshipped program for D/disability-identified artists focused on exploring the creation of compelling performance. Centred on the principle that every body and every mind is uniquely creative, the Academy is for those identifying as living with visible or invisible D/disability and is working towards acquiring the skills and knowledge necessary to sustain an entrepreneurial performance practice at a professional level.
