Teenage DickFebruary 9 – March 5, 2023 | Newmont Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre What do you get when the millennial teen comedy Mean Girls meets Shakespeare’s iconic Richard III? The deliciously witty Teenage Dick by Mike Lew.Life at Roseland High School is less than ideal for 17-year-old outsider Richard Gloucester (Christopher Imbrosciano). Teased for his cerebral palsy—and oddly Shakespearean way of speaking—he makes it his mission to get revenge in the only way possible: running for senior class president. But as his determination to beat out the competition leads him down a terrifying path, Richard is faced with the ultimate decision between being feared or loved. Taking a modern stance on disability, status, and perception, this darkly comedic reimagining of Richard III, Shakespeare’s tale of power lust, asks what is at stake when we let our ambitions take over. The production included two ancillary events — Crip Cabaret: A Reclamation! hosted by Amy Amantea on February 26, and the Disability Artists Market was held in the Newmont Stage atrium during select performances of Teenage Dick. Presented by the Arts Club, in collaboration with Bard on the Beach and Glitch Theatre.
