From Touchstone Theatre’s Flying Start program comes an exploration of mental illness and belonging that offers a subversive, darkly-comedic take on the Zombie post-apocalyptic genre; Vascular Necrosis.

Five years ago, Penelope killed herself. Shortly after, she rose from the grave as a flesh-eating monster. Now, with the help of “de-necrotizers” — medication meant to subdue her zombie instincts, she gets to rejoin society in the land of the living. But how do you exist in a world you never wanted to be a part of?

Vascular Necrosis follows Penelope as she’s torn between the world she left behind and the after-life she wants to live.

The NEST is on the third floor of the Festival House on Granville Island. It is accessible by elevator and stairs. All seats in the theatre except the front row require taking stairs, and there is no railing for support. There are no automatic buttons for any of the doors. There are two gendered bathrooms, both with accessible stalls.

 

Content Advisories: This play deals with intense themes of death, suicide, and grief. There are discussions of cancer and overdose, and depictions of violence and sexuality.
