CreepsNovember 30 – December 10, 2016 | The Cultch Historic Theatre Drawn from the playwright’s lived experience of disability, this seminal Canadian work follows five disabled men as they gather in a “sheltered workshop”: a subsidized program that offers essentially meaningless busywork for people with disabilities in 1970’s Toronto. These men – Pete, Tom, Jim, Sam, and Michael – have abandoned their jobs folding boxes and sanding blocks to hide from Ms Saunders, the program’s non-disabled supervisor, in the men’s washroom. There, they discuss their places in society, their prospects of romance and, most of all, their chances of ever leaving the workshop to find their own ways in the world. Audience & Critic Reviews:“CREEPS took me back in time and shocked me into a new found reality. The script and its execution will entertain, inspire, and maybe even change you.“— Becca Clarkson, SAD Magazine “Legendary Canadian script, brave new production, and the final scene smacked me in the face. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it. Outstanding.“— Audience Member “Creeps pulsates with claustrophobic intensity“— Colin Thomas, Fresh Sheet Creeps took home three Jessie Richardson Awards in the Small Theatre category in 2017 — Outstanding Set Design (Lauchlin Johnston), Outstanding Production of a Play, and Significant Artistic Achievement for Outstanding Ensemble Performance. It was also nominated in the Costume Design and Direction categories.
